Telford’s Shropshire Wildlife Trust volunteers

The Wrekin Forest Volunteers, Telford’s Shropshire Wildlife Trust volunteers, are holding their third Telford Wildlife Forum of 2017 at 7:30pm on Tuesday 25 July at Horsehay Village Hall, Bridge Road, Horsehay, Telford, TF4 2NF when we are having an illustrated talk ‘The Nature of Wyre’ by Rosemary Winnall, naturalist and co-author of book ‘The Nature of Wyre – a wildlife rich forest in the heart of Britain’, and which will be a celebration of it’s fabulous wildlife.

There will also be a round-up of local conservation news.

Entrance is £2 for Shropshire Wildlife Trust members and £3 for non-members, which includes free coffee, tea and biscuits.

This promises to be a very interesting evening and it would be greatly appreciated if you would publicise the event for us.

The Wrekin Forest Volunteers

The Wrekin Forest Volunteers, Telford’s Shropshire Wildlife Trust volunteers, will be holding their third Telford Wildlife Forum of 2016 at 7:30pm on Tuesday 26 July at Horsehay Village Hall, Bridge Road, Horsehay, Telford, TF4 2NF when author and photographer Jenny Steel will describe the wildlife gardens she has made and the wildlife they attract, culminating in her current two-acre wildlife garden, complete with wildflower meadow, in South Shropshire.

There will also be a round-up of local conservation news.

Entrance is £2 for Shropshire Wildlife Trust members and £3 for non-members, which includes free coffee, tea and biscuits.

Afternoon of Entertainment (Age UK)

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is holding its annual Afternoon of Entertainment 2015 variety show at Oakengates Theatre in May.

Now in its eighth year, this hugely popular show is aimed at the over 60s living in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin living either independently or in a care setting and promises a fun afternoon of music and comedy.

The theme of this year’s show is the Swinging 60s and will feature the music of The Beatles. Frank Sinatra and Elvis as well as songs from the musicals of that era. A line up of professional entertainers including the Two Beatles Tribute Band, comedians Dandy Glynnis & Allan Briscoe and local entertainer Dave South will be joined by choirs from Wrockwardine Wood Arts Academy and Redhill Primary Schools.

There will also be a raffle with great prizes and refreshments on sale.

The Afternoon of Entertainment variety show will take place on Tuesday 19th May 2015 from 2pm to 4.30pm at Oakengates Theatre@ The Place, Oakengates, Telford TF2 6EP.

Tickets are now on sale priced at £5 each available from Age UK based at Meeting Point House at Telford Centre.

A new local community website for Telford & Wrekin

A new local community website for Telford & Wrekin

Streetlife, the local social network, has a simple aim: to help people make the most of where they live by connecting with their neighbours.

The website provides a free and easy place to share local news, views, recommendations and resources, enabling people with busy routines or reduced mobility to keep in touch with their community.

Conversations started on Streetlife have helped unite lost pets with owners, expose doorstep scammers, save threatened public services and recall local history.  The site is also encouraging real-world friendships, with neighbours sharing gardening equipment, IT advice and dentist recommendations, organising craft groups, street parties and book clubs.

Streetlife has just launched across Telford & Wrekin, and everyone – residents, groups, local government representatives and businesses – is invited to share their knowledge, discuss the local issues they care about, and help build a stronger, better connected community.

Telford Wildlife Forum

The Parish Council has received the following information from The Wrekin Forest Volunteers:

The Wrekin Forest Volunteers, Telford’s Shropshire Wildlife Trust volunteers, will be holding their final Telford Wildlife Forum of 2014 at 7:30pm on Tuesday 28 October at Horsehay Village Hall, Bridge Road, Horsehay, Telford, TF4 2NF when Professor Simon Leather of Harper Adams University will be giving an illustrated talk entitled ‘Birds, bugs and roundabouts’ in which he will describe how he became interested in working on the roundabouts and discuss their potential role as nature reserves and how road safety and wildlife conservation can coexist.

There will also be a round-up of local conservation news.
